What is Carbon Fiber?

What is Infusion? 

The infusion manufacturing process is a method used to create composite parts made of carbon fiber and a resin. The process involves laying the carbon fiber in a mold and then injecting the resin into the mold under pressure. The resin and carbon fibers are then cured, or hardened, to create the final composite part.

The infusion manufacturing process is divided into several stages:

  1. Design and tooling: The first step is to design the composite part and create a mold for it. The mold is typically made of tooling gelcoat or epoxy.

  2. Laying the carbon fiber: The carbon fiber is then laid into the mold, in the desired orientation and thickness.

  3. Applying the release film: A release film is applied over the carbon fiber to prevent the resin from sticking to the mold.

  4. Injecting the resin: The resin is then injected into the mold under pressure, using a vacuum-assisted process.

  5. Curing: Once the resin has been injected into the mold, it is cured using heat and pressure. The curing process can take several hours, depending on the type of resin and the size of the part.

  6. Demolding: After the part is cured, it is removed from the mold.

  7. Final inspection and finishing: The part is inspected for defects and any necessary finishing work is performed, such as sanding and painting.

The Infusion process is a cost-effective method for producing high-quality and high-performance carbon fiber composite parts with consistent properties. It also allows for the production of complex geometries and shapes with high precision. It's commonly used in aerospace, automotive and wind energy industries.
